Hayden woke up to Logan saying "Happy Birthday Hay-Hay!" It was a school day, so we all got ready. I snapped a photo of Hayden outside to capture the day. He was so excited to go to school. I surprised him and his class with a giant decorated cookie to celebrate. His teacher had given him a balloon which was tied to his chair and a funny birthday hat to wear.
Tonight we worked on a school project. Hayden had to make a small poster that will become part of a large "quilt" on his classroom wall. The poster was supposed to represent Hayden. Hayden picked out photos of himself dressing up, a photo from his birthday party and decorated the poster with his favorite candy wrappers and character stickers. It was a lot of fun. But while we were doing it, I was thinking.."how grown up are you?". He picked photos that show when he is truly himself, having a great time, being creative, being funny, laughing and enjoying life. At one point he said "thank-you mom, thank you for helping me make this, it has my favorite things on it"...at the moment I was wrapped up thinking about him and all these pictures and when they were taken and how funny he is and what a constant source of happiness he is for our entire family so I bent down and hugged him tight and barely whispered...."no...thank YOU Hayden."
